Green Roof

I was reading an article in a local Real Estate magazine yesterday about the growing [no pun intended] popularity of a "Green Roof."  A green roof is a system that includes plants grown in soil over waterproof membranes and vapour barrier.

You can see these scattered throughout the city, The Vancouver Public Library, The Broadway Technology Center, The Vine on Broadway or Montiverdi in West Vancouver.  It has been stated that  green roofs enhance the quality of life in communities and make them more sustainable, says BCIT's School of Construction and the Enviroment, Center for Advanced of Green Roof technology.

The Benefits are said to improve: air quailty, energy efficiency, health, aesthetics, storm water management, urban heat island reduction and preservation of habitat and biodiversity.

The website is full of information and is well worth investigating! www.greenroofs.org
